List your room to a private tenant in Barcelona: choose a flatmate by compatibility, not chance

If you have a room available in Barcelona, the problem is not finding candidates — it is finding compatible ones. Listing on Idealista or Fotocasa generates volume without any compatibility signal. Barcelona's mix of local students, Erasmus arrivals, remote workers, and international professionals means the range of living habits in the candidate pool is wider than in most European cities. Goodbye Mama crosses your living profile against the profiles of people actively looking for a room in Barcelona and surfaces the most compatible ones before they send a message. Free, no commission, no limit on profiles you can review.

How it works in 3 steps

Step 1 — Define your flat and your habits

The onboarding asks for the room details (area, price, available from, minimum contract length) and your own living habits: routine, tidiness, noise level, attitude to socialising, guests, smoking, alcohol, and pets. It takes about five minutes.

Step 2 — The algorithm brings you compatible candidates

Goodbye Mama crosses your profile against all active users in Barcelona who are looking for a room and returns the most compatible ones. You do not receive every message from every interested person — you see the profiles with the highest living compatibility.

Step 3 — You contact, meet, decide

You review the suggested profiles, choose who you want to meet, and contact them directly. No intermediary, no closing commission.

Why compatibility before contact matters in Barcelona

Listing a room in Barcelona on general platforms creates a specific problem: the volume of messages includes profiles who would never be compatible with you. You receive 30 messages, of which perhaps 3 are relevant. The rest is time spent responding or ignoring.

The diversity of Barcelona's flat-share market — local students, Erasmus arrivals, hospitality workers, remote workers, expat professionals — means the range of living habits is unusually wide. The algorithm acts before the messages arrive. You only see profiles that match your living habits. Fewer contacts, but a higher signal per contact.

What information you need to list

- Area or neighbourhood in Barcelona (exact address not needed until you are ready to close)

- Room price (€/month, indicating whether utilities are included)

- Available from date

- Minimum contract length

- If there are already flatmates in the flat: their profiles are factored into the matching

Preguntas frecuentes sobre Barcelona

How much does it cost to list a room on Goodbye Mama?

Nothing. Listing is free. There is no commission when you find a flatmate and no monthly fee to keep the listing active.

What is the difference between listing here and on Idealista or Fotocasa?

On Idealista or Fotocasa you receive all messages from all interested people, with no compatibility filter. On Goodbye Mama, the algorithm crosses profiles by living habits before the messages arrive. You receive fewer contacts but more relevant ones.

Can I specify that I am looking for a professional rather than a student?

Yes. The onboarding lets you set profile preferences: age range, employment or academic situation, and other criteria the algorithm factors in. You cannot condition the matching on protected characteristics (nationality, gender, etc.) — that would be discrimination.

What if there are already flatmates in the flat? Does their profile affect the matching?

Yes. If other people are already living in the flat, you can add their living profiles. The algorithm will then look for candidates compatible with the flat as a whole, not just with you.

How long does the first match take to appear in Barcelona?

In September and January, when demand peaks, the first compatible matches typically appear within 24–48 hours. In lower-demand months it can take longer. The platform notifies you when new compatible candidates appear.

Can I list if I am not sure of the exact available date yet?

Yes. You can list with an approximate available-from date and update it later. Listing 3–4 weeks in advance is standard in Barcelona — it gives you time to find a good candidate before the contract starts, particularly for the September and January peaks.
