Find a flatmate who smokes outdoors in Madrid: matching by smoking position

The onboarding separates smoking into three explicit options, not a binary:

- **I smoke** — active smoker. No restriction specified.

- **I don't smoke and need a smoke-free flat** — no tobacco anywhere in or around the flat, including balconies and communal areas.

- **I don't smoke but am happy with a flatmate who smokes outdoors** — the intermediate position. Indoors is smoke-free; the balcony or outside the building is acceptable.

The third position is what this page targets. It is the most common source of unresolved ambiguity: the non-smoker who would accept a flatmate who smokes, provided it stays outside. General platforms do not capture this distinction. The matching does.

Most flat listings in Madrid say "no smoking" without clarifying whether that means no smoking anywhere (including the balcony) or no smoking inside the flat. From the smoker's perspective, smoking on the balcony while the door is closed seems like a reasonable compromise. From the non-smoker's perspective, the smell that drifts in makes it equivalent to smoking indoors.

If your position is "happy with outdoor smoking", the algorithm matches you with smokers who smoke outside — not with flatmates who smoke indoors, and not exclusively with non-smokers.
